X-Rite instruments have a bi-directional communications port. They can send data and they can also receive. This only is possible if the instrument is properly configured. Here are some things to check...
Assure that the instrument is properly configured as regards its RS232 characteristics
The baud rate, handshake,or communications protocol may have been changed. All X-Rite instruments will communicate "out-of-the-box" so knowing the settings of an instrument following a reset leads you to the settings required to operate with X-Rite SW.
Check the physical interface. Cable should be firmly attached to both PC and instrument. A visual inspection of the cable should not reveal wear or signs that it may have been damaged.
Ensure that the port selection in the SW matches the physical connection to the computer.
As with the "Transport" error, close other applications and remove or disable any other devices that may try to use an RS232 resource.
At this point, if the communications error persists, you may as a last step, reset the instrument.
