For most LCD's you should not try to adjust the hardware white point. It is possible to change the hardware white point of a CRT by manipulating the relative intensity of the three beams as they excite the phosphors in the glass. This is not possible in an LCD, but some manufacturers have tried to approximate the effect. We recommend you leave your LCD at its native white point and let your colorimeter and software make the corrections through the lookup table in your video card. This is much more accurate and reliable than manipulating the driver settings.
