Question: after updating my MacOS Snow Leopard to version 10.6.3, ProfileEditor V 5.0.10 does not render colors correctly anymore. For example, the color legend in the Gradation Correction window show only blacks, or colors of an opened image are solarized. How can I solve this?
Answer: The error is caused by some changes on Apple's ColorSync architecture. After update to MacOS 10.6.3 a generic monitor profile has been assigned in the System Preferences > Monitors > Color and ProfileEditor is not able anymore to detect a working monitor profile. The symptom for this is, that no monitor profile name is displayed next to the string 'System Profile' in the ProfileEditor wizard. It seems, that ProfileEditor can only detect those monitor profiles anymore, which are stored in the directory HD/Library/ColorSync/Profiles. Monitor profiles located in the directory HD/User/<User Name>/Library/ColorSync/Profiles will not be detected. So, to solve the issue with the wrong color rendition, go to System Preferences > Monitors > Color and re-select your desired monitor profile. Make sure, that it is located in the directory HD/Library/ColorSync/Profiles.
