What is the calibration process for the 310T?Calibrating the X-Rite 310T
The X-Rite 310 is a fully digital instrument. Even so, it requires periodic calibration to compensate for ageing of its electronic components, especially the lamp. To calibrate proceed as follows:
Locate the certified calibration film wedge (pn 319-68).
Note the lettering on the 310 keypad; three different labeling schemes are used.
Large black lettering indicates primary key function.
Tiny black numbers indicate keys used for numeric entry.
Locate and press the "DEN" key. This selects the density mode.
Locate and press the "ALL" key. This enables all four channels.
To enter the calibration routine press the "F" key (orange function).
Next press the "Cal-Set" key. The LED's in the upper-left quadrant will begin to flash the value currently stored in the lo-memory location of the visual channel.
Locate (tiny black letters) the "0" key. Repeatedly press "0" until all zeros are shown.
When all zeros showing - press "Cal-Set" to advance. The flashing display will move to the upper-right quadrant.
Repeat steps 7 and 8 until all four quadrants have zeros entered.
Press the "Cal-Set" key again. The 310 will prompt you to "Read Lo". Simply read the deck (NO FILM). This will set the density of the deck to 0.000 for all four channels.
After the LO entries have been entered, the 310 returns to the top-left quadrant. It now displays its HIGH values. Locate your calibration film. It has five steps. The fourth step is marked with the word "CAL". It is also marked with the values that should be measured by the 310 for each color channel.
Note the value for the visual channel and via the (tiny black) keypad, enter the required value; i.e., 2.970 for example. Ensure that the number is entered fully. There must not be a minus or any other symbol in the numeric field. If such a character is present, simply enter zeros to clear the field, then re-enter the desired number.
Press the "Cal-Set" to advance to the next quadrant.
Repeat steps 11 through 13 until all high values have been entered.
Press the "Cal-Set" key one last time. The 310 will prompt you to "Read Hi". The high step is the same (#4) as was used to provide the numbers (above).
Center the calibration film (Step #4) beneath the instrument's aperture. Press the reading head down firmly and wait until data is presented. When you release the reading head, calibration will be complete.
