Hub Error Codes
Non-Flashing “01” – Hub Ready Mode, Learn LED Off, LED Array all off
After System Test Mode completes, the hub always selects the first standard as indicated by the “01” and is ready to measure samples.
Flashing “01” – System Test Mode
Each time VeriColor ID powers up, it will enter this test state. During this time the hub is waiting for the heads to come up to operating temperature. Output LEDs that have corresponding sensor heads attached illuminate red when the head(s) is warming up, and then amber when the head(s) is up to temperature and ready to measure.
As soon as all available sensor heads report that they are ready, the hub immediately returns to Sample Operating mode. Typically, this should take no longer than 30-40 seconds from a temperature of 23°C. Heads at a colder temperature need more time. A system that has been up and running for a while will move through this mode quite quickly as everything is already up to temperature.
Flashing “02” – Master Head List Error
After the hub goes through learning a Standard or Targeting Mode, it memorizes the current configuration of the heads. After the System Test Mode, if the hub sees any difference in what heads it currently has versus previous it enters this error state. This could happen quite easily, for example, a new head is added to the system, a head dies, or cables are switched around (so the head order changes).
If the changes are known and you want to update the Master Head List, this is accomplished by entering and exiting Manual Target Mode. The new list is saved after leaving Target Mode. Any standards already learned should be relearned.
The Master head list can be initialized with the Factory Presets Procedure.
Handling the “02” error code
Only one Head indicates a problem.
The head that the hub was using has been replaced with a different one. If this was intended, then the head list can be updated by entering and exiting Manual Targeting mode.
If the head has not been changed, and cables are ok, it’s possible the head is dead. Replace the head with a known working head.
If no head seems to be able to communicate to the hub, the hub may be the problem and needs to be replaced.
Multiple Heads indicate a mismatch. This could be very complicated without VeriColor Software to diagnose the problem. Any system that utilizes multiple heads will want to perform setup through software.
"Connect" in the setup software and a detailed list should appear on what the current hub is reporting for its heads and what was previously configured.
Software can identify if heads have swapped positions, been replaced, or are simply missing.
If the problem is missing heads, then the likely cause is a hardware failure either in a cable, head, or hub.
Always reset the hub after making a cable or sensor head change.
Flashing “03” - Head Timeout Error
The hub was attempting to communicate to a Head and it did not respond within a certain time frame. The LED array illuminates amber to indicate which Head is having trouble.
Handling the “03” error code
Make a note of the amber lights in the LED array to see which head(s) are indicated. Reset the hub.
If after reset, the hub flashes a “02“, then the likely cause is a bad head or cable. See listing above for handling the “02 Master Head List Error.”
Flashing “04” - Head returned a Bad Measurement
A Head was instructed to measure and returned an error code. The LED array illuminates amber to indicate which head(s) is having trouble.
Handling the “04” error code
Make note of which head had the error and reset the hub.
After reset, the hub does not go into Error mode. Try taking several measurements to see if the “04” error returns for that same head. If the same head fails another measurement, it should be replaced.
Flashing “05” – Bad Head Reported
During warm-up mode, the head responded with a Bad Hardware status. The LED array illuminates amber to indicate which Head is having trouble.
Handling the “05” error code
Flashing “06” – Datastore Error
This code can appear if after updating the firmware there is a data structure change, or a serious error has occurred to the datastore values in the hub.
Handling the “06” error code
Manual Hub Operation (no software)
Using VeriColor software
FAQs
Q - When power is applied to the hub, it keeps making clicking noises and never fully powers up.
A - Not enough current is being supplied. Make sure the supply is capable of supplying 2.0A peak load.
Q - When powering up the hub, the Standard # displays “00” for a long time and does not respond to buttons or RCI commands.
A1 – The most likely cause of this is that the Ethernet Port has been enabled but the network is down or not connected. If the hub starts working normally within 7 or so seconds, see options below for possible solutions.
If the Ethernet connection is not going to be used, turn it off using VeriColor software over the RS-232 port. Reset hub to verify fix.
Network might be down. See IT dept.
Ethernet settings might have changed, review them and reset the hub.
A2 - If the “00”’s persist for 10 seconds or more The hub is locked up, its possible something got corrupted in its current configuration. To clear it out, hold down buttons to restore factory presets while cycling power on the hub (make sure the PLC input for Lockout is not active). If this does not work, then the hub is defective and needs replacement.
Q - How do I know which standards are real/exist?
A - Use the Select Up and Down buttons to scroll through. The output LEDs (A-F) illuminate amber if data is stored for the selected standard. For example, if standard #3 is selected on a two sensor head system, LEDs “A” and “B” will light if data is stored in the location.
Q - How do I update my hub’s firmware?
A - In the unlikely event the hub’s firmware needs updating, look on the VeriColor CD provided and install the Firmware Update Utility. New firmware is available on the X-Rite website.
Q – When I push buttons on the hub I get no response, but otherwise the system is working.
A1 - Check the Lockout indicator on the hub. If it is illuminating, the buttons are disabled. Remove the PLC lockout input, or pull the input high to enable the buttons on the hub.
A2 - If the Lockout indicator is not illuminating, the keys may be disabled because of a configuration command sent by the software. Edit the desired project to enable the buttons on the hub, then download.
