Keyspan makes a number of USB to serial adapters. These adapters often come in a variety of versions, and with multiple versions of driver software. It is important to note that to work with an X-Rite instrument, all Keyspan converters require the use of a Driver (supplied by Keyspan) to work properly. While we have received user reports of various problems with we have not found problems with the Keyspan series as long as the latest driver software is in use, and only one adapter is being used. X-Rite resells the following:
The information below is intended to try and lend some clarity to this often confusing subject, and show some selected testing of the various models of Keyspan adapters with different software products. The first chart reflects the model and driver version tested. The Second is a list of software and compatibility with the various models. The test platform for the testing was a G4/500mhz titanium PowerBook running Mac OS9.2.1. Note that many of the software versions marked as working under OS9 will also work in the "classic" mode of OSX. In this case the driver must be installed in classic and not installed in OSX proper. If you need USB to serial adapter functionality in OSX for a native application, then the driver should be installed in OSX and not installed in the classic environment. We have found that the original Keyspan USA-28 twin serial adapter (beige) is not to be rather unreliable operating under OSX.
