Why Do I Set 200DPI for Scanner Profiling?

Q: The manual says to scan the Monaco IT8 target at 200dpi, but I usually scan at a higher resolution. Will my profile only work on photos that I scan at 200dpi?

A: 200dpi is the scanning resolution requirement for the IT8 target, but the profile which you build will work on images regardless of the resolution you choose when you scan your images. Once the scanner profile has been created, you can set your resolution and bit depth to whatever setting you desire. Remember that resolution and bit depth are the ONLY settings that you can change in your scanning software if you plan on using your scanner profile on future scans.
